Squelch was one of my first endeavors into the world of Android application development. The intent of the app was to give users the ability to block apps on their phone that they struggle with by bidding real money against yourself. If you succeed, you pay nothing. If you fail, you lose your bet.
The project required the use of several android specific APIs including foreground services, usage data statistics, system alert windows, and VPN service.
The android application was written in C# using the .NET Xamarin framework which utilizes the Mono Android runtime. This choice ended up being a blessing and a curse from a development and debugging perspective.
- Google Play & Firebase
An interesting part of this project was the necessity for integration with Google Play for in-app purchases and application signing, and Firebase for in-app analytics reporting.
Where Can I Get It?
Squelch is available free of charge on the Google Play store.
